Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 June 2026
This policy explains what personal information Exam Insights collects, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the rights you have over it. We have tried to keep it plain. If anything is unclear, get in touch and we will explain.
1. Who we are
Exam Insights (“Exam Insights”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a study platform that helps Irish Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate students explore past exam papers, spot topic trends, and revise with AI assistance. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, Exam Insights is the data controller for the personal information described here. You can reach us about any privacy matter at hello@examinsights.ie.
2. The short version
- We collect the minimum we need to run your account and the study features.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising.
- Sign-in and security are handled by Clerk; the app runs on Cloudflare; AI replies are generated through NVIDIA-hosted models.
- You can access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time by contacting us.
3. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your name, email address, and authentication details. Sign-in is managed by our authentication provider, Clerk. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google — we never receive your Google password.
Profile and study preferences. During onboarding you tell us your exam cycle (Junior or Leaving Cert) and the subjects you study. We use this to tailor what you see.
AI interaction content. When you use the tutor chat, notes, timetable, or paper-generation features, we process the messages, questions, and documents you submit so the model can respond.
Usage and device information. Like most web services, our hosting platform automatically logs basic technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, approximate region, and pages requested — to keep the service secure and reliable.
Local storage. We store small amounts of data in your browser (for example your theme preference and session) so the app works smoothly. See the cookies section below.
4. How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and keep you signed in.
- To provide the study features and personalise them to your subjects and exam cycle.
- To generate AI responses, notes, and practice materials you ask for.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical problems.
- To respond to your messages and support requests.
- To meet our legal obligations.
5. Legal bases for processing
Under the GDPR we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the account and features you sign up for); legitimate interests (to keep the service secure, reliable, and improving, balanced against your rights); consent (where required, for example for certain non-essential storage — you may withdraw consent at any time); and legal obligation (where the law requires us to retain or disclose information).
6. AI features and your inputs
Our AI features send the text and documents you provide to NVIDIA-hosted language models to generate a response. We use these providers to process requests on our behalf, not to train public models on your personal content. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into AI prompts. AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete and should be checked against official sources — see our Terms for more on this.
7. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with service providers (“processors”) that help us run Exam Insights, each under a contract that requires them to protect it:
- Clerk — authentication, account management, and security.
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, database storage, and protection against attacks.
- NVIDIA — hosted language models that generate AI responses.
- A payment provider — if and when paid plans go live, to process subscriptions securely. We do not store full card details ourselves.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or as part of a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will tell you. We do not sell your personal information.
8. International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision — so your information receives an equivalent level of protection.
9. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations. Technical logs are kept only for a short period.
10. Children and young people
Exam Insights is built for second-level students, some of whom are under 18. Under Irish law the age of digital consent is 16. If you are under 16, you must have permission from a parent or guardian to create an account and use the service, and they should review this policy with you. We do not knowingly collect more information from a young person than we need to provide the service. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us information without your consent, contact us and we will address it.
11. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; have inaccurate information corrected; have your information erased; restrict or object to certain processing; receive your information in a portable format; and withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these, email hello@examinsights.ie and we will respond within the timeframes the law requires (normally within one month).
12. How we protect your information
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers to protect your information. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to address any issues promptly. If a breach ever affects your rights, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
13. Cookies and local storage
We use only the storage needed to run the service: a session so you stay signed in, and small preferences such as your light/dark theme. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear this storage in your browser settings, though doing so will sign you out.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves or the law changes. When we make a material change we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Exam Insights after an update means you accept the revised policy.
15. Contact and complaints
For any privacy question or request, email us at hello@examinsights.ie. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie), though we hope you will contact us first so we can put things right.
